Many people see the internet as the big opportunity to exploit, coupled with the phenomenal successes many online companies have seen in recent times, many people get the idea that it is the next Eldorado, and jump into creating companies without knowing the essentials of this platform and the change in mindset that usually accompanies working online.

Essential values that must be mastered

If you take a look at some of the online businesses that are not making much and even some of those that are doing well, you will find some worrying characteristics. A lot of people that get into the world of online marketing try to do so by using back-handed techniques that will either not profit them at all or lead them to the top spot for a short time only to let them fall again. Take for example the case of white hat and black hat SEO techniques. Black hat techniques may take you there, give you some money. However white hat techniques will finally build your strength and show of your growth. When you finally reach the top position, you can enjoy it for a long time. Get the knowhow, get the education so you will not be lost when certain issues are discussed and also that you can easily determine trends.

This leads us to the first value, learn what you need, apply what you learned and develop that. Learning is an important key here. New techniques and innovations are coming in and out, however use techniques that are ethical, good and provide your clients with interesting insights.

Developing patience will help your online business to a great deal. You just need to take a look at some popular marketing sites to see how articles are poorly describes, graphics poorly displayed, no harmony in the whole websites, pay per click adverts and banners strewn all over the place for good measure.

While these can bring in some money, focusing on a few good quality leads on each page will do wonders for you. Take time to research your niche and produce coherent content. Work not only to display your ideas, and show where their clients should put their money; also provide them a good working environment. Since this is your business, your website is your office space. Let it be organised and uncluttered. Let your customers not feel bombarded. Lead them on in a pleasing manner. This will help you to develop quality relations that matter to you.

Like in all businesses, don’t leave your manners when you log on to your admin page. Be polite to your customers and potential customers even when you are not addressing them directly, invest wisely by taking little steps at a time, and don’t forget to test your new ideas before applying them.

Are you already running your online business or thinking of getting into one, taking out a sheet-oh well, a word processor or a mind mapping software to put your ideas together and match them with these values. Put in the necessary effort to apply them will certainly give you success online.

Many companies look for innovation by consulting with established product development firms for innovative ideas. Why there is nothing wrong about this, sometimes the answer might really be under your nose and at a cheaper price too.

With many businesses having to deal with an even tighter budget, research and development is also facing a hit, making it difficult to power innovation. However more and more businesses are turning to their employees for new ideas on how to take their businesses ahead.

Thinking of innovation?, why don’t you talk first to those that are around you first, those that are already passionate about the products and that are involved in the service line day after day? They might well be the one to propose that change that will make your process go faster and more efficiently, or they might just be the ones to come up with some idea that will power your company to the next level.

Even if you are not at the point of innovation, encouraging your workers to come up with creative ideas from time to time and rewarding such creativity with incentives that recognise their efforts will increase their commitment and dedication as they are encouraged as not mere workers but as parts of a team that relies on their efforts to become better.

Other possibilities involve asking friends and family to bring up ideas, running contests for small prices, and thinking up schemes that enable the participation of your community. These can bring in relevant ideas, or at least stubs that may be built upon for application in your company.

Innovation is crucial in the business, and the more a business can produce fresh and better ideas, the more stable is its future. Therefore creating opportunities for innovation will guarantee strong standing in an increasingly competitive world.

As I thought of the role blogging plays in a modern business landscape, the word landscape played in my mind; then in a real world parallel a blog would be a nicely shaped flower pattern that is continually trimmed and cared for and is the centre piece of the garden. Its attractiveness draws visitors to itself, inevitably pulling them into the garden at the same time. While they contemplate the beauty of this flower arrangement, they are then made aware of the surrounding and in most cases will move around to check out the less remarkable flowers which are equally part of the garden. These visitors may end up spending countless afternoons after discovering the pleasant surrounding s and quiet.

Same with the modern business today, the number of sites offering the same services as yours are so numerous it might be almost impossible to do business online today without some cool web marketing strategies. Blogs by their very nature are optimised marketing tools.

First and foremost, a web store page on its own is just that, a page of products for sale like any shop front. You can put your product and hope someone gets in or you can go around advertising your product, organising public displays and forums to educate the population on what you have to offer. The blog does all this in one platform. You can write articles about your products, educate clients on use of the products and even on things like how to order, what to check on your site and even on the unique features of your own business concepts and how it should benefit the prospective clients more to deal with you.

Moreover you can answer the questions of your clients in a meaningful way. It will help your business greatly when you realize that many people communicate by e mail and text messaging more than any other mode of communication today. Blog posts and reactions to post are just an extension of this trend. Many people were resistant to this idea because it felt as if they were doing business with a machine. Nowadays it is just another form of communication and your answers are as valid as if you were there in front of them. In fact, you show your expertise in the matters concerning your products. This is the concept of a blog, to present a face to the public.

Blogs are usually up to date with the latest facebook connects, tweets RSS feeds and all the power of the social media linked together to give your messages greater publicity on all platforms, and also create a meeting point for many of these platforms. In addition to this, since you regularly update content, your search engine rankings are also improved when a blog associates with your site. You can also create relevant links from your discussions and direct your clients to specific products and eventually to your store.

This is the power of blogs, its place in the business landscape; to attract, keep and send clients to your store, and after that to keep them interested in you enough to keep them coming for more. No business should neglect the power of Blogging.

The rise in internet technology in the areas of networking and real time interaction has made online employment to see a boost in recent years.

Even though many of the jobs are destined for the professionals on the other end of the globe, many times, with the right kind of professional qualification, it is still possible to get a good online job that may eventually bloom to full time employment with all the said benefits.

The online employment shows one of the strongest trends in the sphere of software development. Many small and medium companies with limited resources are depending on this to produce software for use and for sale. In this sector is the growing niche of mobile applications for the increasingly prevalent smart phones.

Beside the trend of mobile applications and software snippets moving upscale, other skills are increasingly in demand by online employers like a good understanding of web development, and different sectors of customer service.

The phrase ‘online jobs’ and ‘work from home’ are one of the most searched phrases in America and the rest of the world. While many unscrupulous individuals are taking advantage of this and defrauding the unsuspecting, there are many other people that have understood the major shift in direction and have taken steps to not only provide reliable service, but to bridge the gap between those seeking jobs and those providing the jobs.

Like any other shift in current trends, this is a bit worrying, and many are not sure if they like it or not. However the truth is in the numbers. Platforms that provide online jobs have seen major growth in the number of jobs being posted and the amount of money being paid out to the workers. It just makes sense to go with the flow, and use the system as you see fit. Instead we all have to pull our resources together and work to regulate the system and harmonise it with existing systems.

These are shifting trends in business today, and we are not going to see the end of it, and neither is it going to be the end of our economic prosperity. We just have to embrace it, even as the car came to take over the cart in usefulness, the world did not end there. However people that made carts went into different lines of business.

However, many people are puzzled because while their websites have proven successful for making money directly, they wonder how to administer both a blog and a website and use the blog to drive sales to the website, while not detracting from the website.

One of the features that can render a website to be classified as badly designed is clutter. Some designers try to put in as much information as they can on a product and all the keywords and gimmicks. Sometimes this has the adverse effect of making the visitor doubt the product and all this clutter does not educate but confuses the prospective buyer. A blog is a great alternative for including more product information without cluttering up the original website.
The blog will serve to inform interested prospects and educate them on the products that you are offering. You can use this site creatively by writing engaging articles about different way s to use the product, the benefits of the products and then directing them to where they can obtain the product (your web store) and even browse for more interesting products.

By nature a blog invites interaction enabling customers and readers to post messages, feedback and comments related to your company and products. It is especially valuable when you can take some suggestions and use them to make your product or service better.

This builds a steady relationship as they associate with you and your answers for advice, direction and new ideas. It keeps them coming again and again and this will usually translate to sales. Employ good customer service here. Don’t keep the messages you receive waiting for too long, answer them sincerely and on time.

Besides the seriousness of product details and what they can achieve, you can also adopt a playful tone from time to time by dolling out fun facts, interesting articles and stories about life in general to change the mood and keep them interested.

Above all, you can apply SEO techniques on blogs to a higher degree and efficiency because of the informality that it embraces. Therefore within your blog, you can create content with all the available keywords and search terms that you can imagine, bring the users to the blog, and then link them to your site

Many times in the life of a business, the strategies need to be reorganized and new ones put in place. As elementary as it sounds, many businesses do not apply this simple principle of change and end up failing to the worse or just never doing any better. One of the reasons many businesses do not reorganize themselves is because of the fear of the unknown, the fear to lose what they currently have. However with a few principles it is possible to maintain your clients why applying new strategies. Hold this thought while you explore the following points on business retooling.

Even when a particular model is working well, it is possible that you may do better. Study the market and brainstorm to get new strategies and introduce these strategies gently into the system to evaluate how they work. This gentle approach will give you time to evaluate how the strategy is faring and if it can be tweaked in any way to perform better, or if it has to be abandoned completely.

In either case, it involves less risk and presents a better choice. The mistake that is commonly made here is to find a new model, get excited all about it and then going along to implement it or in not doing anything at all.

In many cases the new strategies that a business may need may not have anything to do with the product or the service. These may be perfectly fine; however the customer experience might be far from satisfactory. Where else do we get to know how the customer feels about out the service if we don’t talk to them? Encouraging customer feedback will help the business know what it is doing right, and also what the customer needs changed.

In many cases it may be illogical and against your personal beliefs. But the age old saying “the customer is always right” should be a reminder that a business should serve its customers. This takes us to the next point, implement customer ideas no matter your personal inclinations.

The last point here is; know when to change. Thinking about implementing new strategies is a good thing. When improperly timed, it could be fatal. How do you know when it’s time to change? Follow the numbers, check which products are bought. Look at the total sale volume as well as the net profit. Analyze the data and know whether you are actually making a profit or not. As you follow the trends, it becomes easy to spot when things are not going well, and which part in the process is really taking the hit. New strategies for the difficult sector will be created and introduced at the right time, and on target.

Even though many small and large companies are branching to use social media to promote their businesses and have a part in the developing online communities, many are not totally convinced of how these can bring them into success and this is because of the lack of solid correlation between using social media to increase business.

Many times the social media just has mechanised messages without much thought or interaction and this is a mistake because people don’t just want to see thoughtless messages in your business face book profile. They want to see some useful thoughts coming from those running your business and want to interact with you in a meaningful way.

Here is one man who used social media in the way it should be used and got his business booming even when the industry sector as a whole was facing a hit.

Sam Von Trapp essentially did what social media is supposed to do. He used his experience as an outdoor person and combined it with the family name and his business to recreate his status in the hospitality business.

Sam runs a the Trapp Family Lodge, and seeing business flailing engaged in social media to connect with potential clients by talking back and forth on Facebook, Twitter , and using the company blog to both answer their questions and also inspire them to the outdoors.

He used stories from his outdoor experience and background to communicate using newsletters telling his adventures. In this way, he interacted with people in real time and also using in passive methods, spurring interest in the lodge and eventually getting people to book for stays with them and not only once or twice, but repeat customers.

He also used this interaction to establish himself in the eyes of the clients and potential clients as the new leader of the business with new agenda’s and program and many wanted to experience what he had to offer. Came to try it out for them and are encouraged to share their experience which on its own keeps spurring interest in the business.

Social media is here to stay, and if your company does not have a profile yet, what are you waiting for? You are missing some good business out there from unlikely sources. Get into the flow.

Keeping out an eye for those pitfalls will help you navigate your small business into growth and productiveness.

Top of the list of pitfalls is inaccurate accounting. While it is easier to keep count of the money derived from sales, just taking account of this alone will not give you an accurate indication on how you are faring and if all the costs in manufacturing are not taken into account, you might be losing money without even knowing it and before you realize it, you’re out of business. Go into the minutiae of each cost involved in production, and then subtract these from the price of goods sold to get the gross profits, and making sure you check the fluctuations regularly will help you see when your sales are falling. This should give you the chance to investigate the cause and take steps to bring back your sales on track.

Getting qualified personnel will work wonders for your business. Many small businesses adopt the wrong strategy of hiring under qualified staff to handle their affairs because they are easier to pay than qualified staff. However don’t cut corners when hiring. Budget for the best, and they will handle your business professionally and you will also benefit from the experience they’ve had before you.

Watch out for tax issues. Many small businesses fall back on this, trying to cut corners on taxation will never get you far. It is always better to take time to learn how tax issues affect your business and to plan for them. This will lake your business robust and prepared for growth.

Many small businesses end up failing because of failing to adopt a few good business practices. Try not to get into the trap.

It is normal to be invited to functions and activities that bring together players in your niche to network together and share ideas on a regular basis. You might be comfortable with your client base and are generating enough income. However have you ever considered taking it to the next level? Have you considered you just might become the next industry leader if your product got a wider exposure?

Well now you must be thinking radio, television and the internet. While these are great, taking it to a personal level by actually meeting your prospective clients in person and networking with them in the good old fashioned face to face communication might do the trick, and set them off to investigate further by actually paying more attention to your adverts or investigating your website. How many times have you left a function, great organisations and people and went home put on your computer and checked them out further? That’s what you want your prospective clients to do.

To do this, you first have to identify what your prospective clients should look like; age, sex, income levels and all the other qualifications with a little analysis you should get that.

Then go on to see where you can find them in a receptive mode, the functions they attend, and other activities they like, and in general the other things that normally groups them together.

Once you have this information, then make it a point to go where they go, and be present at activities that they take part in. Talk with them, try to understand them and above all present your product as a solution, or an aesthetic idea.

Now, this should not only drive business your way, but it is also a great way to find generate new business ideas for your company. By interacting with your niche population, you can get feedback on how to make your product better or get information on what they need and direct yourself in this direction.

The high risks involved in setting up a business, and the time and effort needed to plan and run a business full time is keeps a lot of people away from starting out on their own, even when they have good and perfectly workable business plans.

One of the best ways in building your own business is to start small. And one of the best ways of starting small is by operating your business on part time basis. In starting part time, you will probably have fewer employees to deal with and be able to learn how to handle the practical aspects of your business effectively. Business is more than the application of the theories learnt in school. Much of it is learned on the job, and your part time business will give you the background to handle more work load once you become established full time.

Moreover, business usually takes time to establish. What makes a business stable is when a steady stream of consumers patronizes your products and services. This kind of loyalty takes time to build, and going part time gives you the time to take your business through the stage of looking for customers and establishing trust before it goes to the stage of productiveness. You will still be able to sustain yourself from your full time job while you wait for your business to pick up speed. When this finally occurs and you are able to generate profits at a steady level, it is an indication that your business is ripe enough to take it full time.

Going part time as well as having obvious advantages as seen above can also have serious disadvantages if not carefully managed. The most prevalent is the loss of family ties and relationships. Going part time will mean using the free time you normally have after your day job to spend with your family dedicated to business. Sometimes it is difficult for the family to understand and clearly explaining your reasons for taking on the extra load and involving your family into your part time business are good ideas for quieting these difficulties.

Moreover, you may actually lose business because you will not be able to respond to customers on time, especially if they call during working hours. Taking strategies to outsource or respond to them on time will save your budding business.
